Custom Wood Furniture
This magnificent, 11’ custom-built dining table and chairs was created from a single slab of Oregon walnut measuring five feet wide, 20 feet long, and three inches thick, which Douglas travelled himself to source for the client. He also created a matching sideboard, end tables, and coffee table from the same slab. In addition, all custom cabinetry and millwork in this home was created and installed by Douglas Grant.
This bespoke round maple table features delicate-looking but sturdy legs carefully cut to shape and then veneered. Douglas created this unique table, and other custom furniture pieces, for this Shoal Point home. The darker accents of the center ring and feet of the table are made of Peruvian walnut.
Douglas created this highboy dresser by drawing on both Shaker and Arts and Crafts design influences. The clean lines of the Shakers were a rejection of ornate, Baroque ornamentation, and Douglas incorporated the simplicity of their ideas here. This handsome piece is made from cherry, with reverse tapered legs. Five feet high, with decorative side rails and a clear lacquer finish.
Douglas created this Arts and Crafts cherry side table / night table with decorative, lateral slats. Rubbed bronze hardware echoes the elegant, rectilinear forms used within the piece.
This unique, Shaker-inspired ladderback chair incorporates steam-bent rear legs and back slats. Douglas created a set of eight, in garry oak. Because garry oak is a protected species, the tree had come down naturally, and the local woodworker’s guild had it milled to be used for furniture.
A makeup table / vanity was created as a match for a sink vanity in the same home. At the direction of Victoria architect DH Moore, Douglas created both painted pieces to echo the feminine, classic lines of the claw-foot tub. He borrowed classical design aspects of original Queen Anne furniture, incorporating cabriole legs, panel-front drawers, and crystal knobs.
